Smart Home Security Systems

Gone are the days when ‘Beware of dog’ signboard or thorny bushes around the house were sufficient to deter burglars. In this modern era, burglars have devised ways of bypassing traditional deterrents and getting the loot.

However, modern technology has also got its own share of solutions to prevent burglary. Automated home security has been around for some time now with sensors and alarms getting upgraded frequently. With so many different variants of security gadgets being on offer, it might be a little confusing to figure out the most suitable one for your home. All security systems focus on securing the entry points into the home, like the windows and doors. They all work on a similar principle – the main control box to which the various sensors are attached to, and upon a breach, they send off a signal to the main control box. This, in turn, triggers off an alarm or sends a pre-programmed call to the police or Security Company, etc.

Home security systems refer to systems of interworking electronic components and integrated network devices working in conjunction with a central control panel. The latest home security systems currently available in the market include the following:

A control panel

This is the primary computerized controller of a home’s security system that can arm and disarm the system, communicate with different components or trigger off an alarm when security is breached. It has a touchpad programming and can even work on voice commands or wireless remote technology after entering the passcode.

Door and window sensors

These consist of two parts fixed adjacent to each other, with one part being placed on the door/window panel and the other on the body frame. When the door/window is shut, a security circuit is created; if the circuit is breached by the opening of the door or window, a trigger is sent to the control panel which sets off an alarm.

Motion sensors

When the security is switched on, it protects a given space by sending off an alarm when movement is detected within the zone covered. It can be used both inside and outside the house.

Surveillance cameras

These can be wired or wireless and can be monitored through your smartphone or computer. They can be placed externally, internally or in hard to see distant parts of your property like garage, sheds, exteriors, etc. They also come in handy when you want to see who is ringing your doorbell. They are excellent for monitoring caregivers or kids after they get back home from school or even for having footage of a break-in with a good view of the burglars.

High-decibel alarms

These alarms are loud enough for alerting those at home as well as the neighbors. The loud shrill sound should be enough to get any burglar running!
